About 'Us'

Hi, I'm Amy. I was a primary school teacher for 20 years and now work as a Gallery Educator linking together my two passions for art and teaching. For the past three years I've worked freelance as part of the Learning team at the National Gallery in London, amongst others. Very soon, all my lovely teacher friends started asking me to do workshops for their classes and I realised this could be the start of something...
I want to help children understand and engage with great art - and see how it's relevant to their lives today. From there, I will show them how they can use this as inspiration within their own work with practical workshops.

I have a very good knowledge of art from the 1200s through to contemporary artists and am really enthusiastic about sharing this. Don't worry though! I talk about art without all the over-the-top language. Art is about life and society, it should be spoken about in a normal way. I also understand how to use paintings within other subjects providing enriching links to literacy, history and religious studies.

How can I help you as a teacher?
I know that many teachers are intimidated by art and don't want to teach it. Or find it difficult to include all the elements that they're meant to according to the National Curriculum.
The way that I'm different to other workshops is that I understand the requirements of the curriculum (as well as the limitations of a classroom) but also have an insight into different ways to engage with paintings within lessons.

The National Curriculum says:
"Pupils should be taught about the work of a range of artists, craft makers and designers, describing the differences and similarities between different practices and disciplines, and making links to their own work." - Key Stage 1

"Pupils should be taught about great artists, architects and designers in history." - Key Stage 2
I can help you with this !

What do I offer?
I offer a wide range of practical workshops, all of which can be tailored to your specific requirements. If you don't see what you want, please ask.

Cross-Curricular Links:

Do you want just the art history package? That's fine too! If you have your own ideas for a practical activity, just tell me and I can link into that.

Have you got a school Pause Day coming up? I can provide a morning or full day workshops linked to your theme.

Have a look at the “Workshops Available” page to find out more.

CPD Training
I also offers CPD training for teachers, providing a straightforward, no-fuss approach to art. I understand that art can seem intimidating and many teachers are uncomfortable about it. I can show you how to use it easily in a cross curricular way.
