Practicalities
Hopefully, everything you need to know is here. Please ask if you've any further questions.
How is a Workshop structured with Ask About Art?
For all workshops, the morning starts with an interactive Talking about Art session within the context of the topic you have chosen. I will help the children learn how to look at paintings and engage with them using all their senses. We will explore a number of works of art in a way that the children realise how they were relevant to society at the time they were created and how they are relevant to their lives today.
The second part of the morning is spent creating their own art piece (or poem / description if you have chosen a literacy session) inspired by what they have discovered.
Finally, we finish with a ‘gallery viewing’ - depending upon how wet the work still is!
Using the correct vocabulary the children will discuss their own work, and that of others, in terms of composition, colour palette and the methods and media they’ve used.
Morning workshops last 3 hours and can be worked around your school's timings.
What if we have 2 or 3 classes?
After the initial Talking about Art session, I will work with each class in turn for 20 minutes to introduce the practical activity and then rotate around the classrooms for the remainder of the session. There will be a child-led independent investigation or activity for the classes that I’m not currently with.
Alternatively, for two classes spread across one day, I can do the Talking about Art session with both classes and then work with one class for the remained of the morning and the other for the afternoon.
How about a full day?
Yes, I can do that! We would do more preparatory work towards the main activity so the children can develop their skills and learn more about the styles and themes of the artists.
What do we need? What do you provide?
I can provide all the materials for an additional charge. This will vary depending upon which workshop it is.
If you would prefer, I will send a list of all the required materials and any preparation that is needed when the booking is confirmed.
